Another month & a half til vacation but I’m ready to go now. The past few days have been nuts, I’m tired of cold weather, and I want a vacation!
Valentine’s Day night, Chase cooked soup for dinner; he found a copycat recipe of Le Cellier’s beer cheese soup and made it. Last time we tried this it made a HUUUUUGE amount and it wasn’t great. But this time it was perfect. Yas.
Mom and Dad brought Skye by to say hello for Valentine’s Day too… she went on a tour that day and mom sent me this pic of her at the end of the day totally knocked out in the back seat LOL
Then I took Friday off to get some house work done! My plan had been to paint the dining room finally. But we are now on… tester number 9? And nothing is working right.
The same paint looking like blue on the wall and taupe on the white foamboard. I just want a neutral grey but that is apparently very hard, after reading several blog posts and websites.
I think we’ve decided to just go with a grey that we like/looks neutral on the white foamboard. It may look warm/cold in other areas (it will be in multiple other areas of the house – dining room/entryway/living room/upstairs hallway) but I feel like if it’s neutral in a neutral setting (and not brown or blue) then let’s just go with it. Otherwise I don’t think we are ever going to find anything.
So since we hadn’t made a decision in time to get paint for Friday, I instead painted the interior of my costume closet.
Original: Pale green with a weak yellow light bulb
Blue (still with the old light bulb)
New bulb!
Mostly finished
It’s funny how feminine I’ve been wanting my sewing room to be and then I go pretty masculine for my costume closet. LOL. I liked this blue because I liked it with the brown trim, and I thought it would be a fun colour I wouldn’t get sick of quickly (I was originally thinking pink but I think I’d get tired of that fast.)
I started feeling kinda crappy while painting tho. Headachey and hot. Finished first coat and went to lay down for a bit only to get immediately woken by my phone ringing. Couldn’t get back to sleep so ate lunch and then went to do second coat which was a struggle. After that decided it must be a weird migraine so I took my medicine and laid down again – that did the trick. But it sucked because I didn’t realize it was a migraine at first and tried to push through painting with just some ibuprofen.
Sewed a bit Friday night but I was tired and didn’t get a lot done. I’ll get to all the sewing at the end of the post.
Saturday morning we got up and had breakfast and as we were sitting there somebody rang the doorbell. Turned out to be the neighbor from right behind us, he came over to warn us that one of our trees had fallen against the fence that separates our yards.
Turns out the tree was mostly dead and in all the rain the roots had started to come up. Thankfully the place on the fence it was leaning against was a post. But neighbor has a pool right on the other side so obviously he doesn’t want this tree crashing through the fence and into his pool LOL
So that was a fun way to start the day.
I sewed a bit before we got ready! We had our Valentine’s Day date night that night. First we went to Pink Palace to see Galaxy Quest on the imax!
And they had a neat little exhibit of various stuff from the sci-fi movies they are showing this month.
It was so fun watching Galaxy Quest again on the big screen. I love that movie! We need to go to more Pink Palace movies. They’re doing Snow White next month!
Since we had dinner reservations right after, we had to sneak out right before the credits started to make it on time. And we had to go to the movie kinda dressed up, but that was kinda fun.
Dinner was at Folk’s Folly and it was really good. We didn’t get dessert, instead went across the street and got cupcakes to take home for later.
I also got a chance to finally wear my vintage jacket I got last year!
Having the collar popped was delightfully warm
It’s really nice, it’s a green wool with a sort of “deep peach” satin lining and a fur collar. There’s an old 60s Goldsmith’s tag in the back and the original owner’s initials on the inside by the buttons. I’ll have to take some more pics of it later.
Sunday morning we got up and discovered….. our fridge died!
It’s the fridge that came with the house. It’s been making a loud whirring/knocking noise off and on the past couple of weeks. Chase kept telling me it was just the fan. Well then he got up Sunday morning it was totally dead.
Sooooo change of plans for Sunday. THANKFULLY we were planning on switching out the fridge for ours we brought from our last house and putting the other one in the garage. We just had to do that sooner than planned. Ours had already been disassembled to get it out of our last house, we just needed to disassemble it FURTHER to get it in the new house (freezer door had to come off). So that was most of the morning. More disassembly. Me and Chase trying to move a fridge on our own. Trying to find all the pieces that we’d taken off last summer. Cleaning it up, reassembling. But by last night we had it up and running with food switched over. And it looks like my uncle wants the “dead” one – he thinks it can be fixed pretty easily so yes please get it out of here. Right now I have 2 fridges in my kitchen.
And then we had some guys come over and take care of the tree.
Just a bunch of firewood now. Thank goodness.
Then dinner and more sewing.
This morning on my way to work I had a car almost hit me. I was in the lefthand lane slowing down because I was reaching the light. One car ahead of me already stopped. Car to the right of me with it’s turn signal on signaling right, obviously turning into the gas station. Suddenly the car to the right jerks the car left and directly at me! I laid on the horn and thankfully had a huge, empty median I could veer into. But it felt like forever before the person stopped, they just kept coming and I had to keep swerving. Finally they stopped and I went around them like WTF. I have no idea what they were trying to do, I was so shook I didn’t pay attention to where they went after that. They were either trying to do a U-turn (from the right hand lane?!) or changed their mind on the gas station they wanted to go to and decided to go to the one on the left (from the right hand lane?!). I have no idea. It was so weird and not a great way to start the day.
SO! Sewing.
Did I post this pic last week? I can’t remember.
Got the top assembled throughout last week/this weekend.
Middle of last week, looking pretty cute.
And Sunday morning. Literally the only change I made to the pattern was to add sleeves, which I pulled from another pattern – I just always had in my head that it would have 3/4 length sleeves.
So last night I got the sleeves sewn together and pinned in. I tried it on with the sleeves and… realized I had a huge fit issue. The top is not fitting right. Basically the problem is that the front main pattern piece is not tall enough — or if I don’t want to blame the pattern, I can blame myself and say that my boobs don’t fit in it. If I put it on as it should sit at the shoulders/neckline, the darts are pulled up about a half-inch too high making them pucker funny, and the seam line that should be right under the bust is sitting about a half inch too high. If I pull those down where they sit right/look right, it pulls the shoulder seam/neckline down funny.
Ugh.
I tried putting on a different bra and it helped a LITTLE but not a lot. I took the shoulder seams apart – I’d left a little room in there but it didn’t help a lot either. I’m considering having to recut the entire top, if I have enough fabric left over. I think I might. But I’m going to play with it some more tonight and see if I can make it work. I wish I hadn’t already clipped my curves at the bust seam, I probably could have squeezed some room out of that but alas.
Outside of the bodice the skirt is going ok, I got it evened off and the first part of the hem sewn up. I’m going to finish it by hand.
And finally new art.
Like I said I’m trying to reach 100 Padmes, so that meant stretching a bit. I went back and did the AOTC nightgown. It’s not super exciting. But I did it.
